What You Can Expect:
1. Needles are extremely thin, sterile, and disposable. The needles come in a sealed package and are used only one time on one patient.
2. You should feel a heaviness, slight tingle/numb, or dull ache when the needle is inserted.
3. Some patients will feel results immediately while others will experience results one to two days after treatment. Effects from a treatment will vary depending on condition and patient.
4. Length of treatment depends on the individual and on the condition being treated. Like other health treatments, as the symptoms improve, fewer visits are required.
1. Wear loose, comfortable clothes.
2. If you have long hair, bring a hair tie.
3. Eat a small snack but do not indulge in a large meal before and after treatment
4. Other than your prescription drugs, refrain from using drugs or alcohol before your visit and up to 6 hours after treatment. (PLEASE DO NOT STOP TAKING ANY OF YOUR PRESCRIBED MEDICATIONS).
5. Drink water before & after you treatment and try to relax before your appointment & rest for one hour after treatment.
This is the first question everyone asks and the biggest reason why people do not want to try acupuncture. Acupuncture needles are not anything like regular needles used in medical procedures or taking blood. They are as thin as a cat's whisker. Pain is usually not a factor in your treatment. Acupuncture has treated many small children without pain, so don't be afraid to give it a try.
Safety Note: In order to practice in Ohio, acupuncturists must be trained in Clean Needle Techniques. In addition, they must also pass a CNT national licensing exam.

Western scientific theories behind acupuncture:
Insertion of needles stimulates the body by activating the natural opioid systems of the brain, conduction of electromagnetic signals and changes the brain's chemistry, sensation and involuntary functions.
FYI: What's the Difference
TCM acupuncturists are required to have over 2000 hours of schooling and clincal practice before being licensed. And because many problems stem from more than one cause, TCM acupuncturists typically treat your whole body to resolve the root problem.
Medical acupuncturist, such as MD's, DO's, chiropractors, & PT's typically treat specific problem areas such as, sprained ankle, knee, low back, neck, etc. They are required to take 300 hours of needle training.
Both options can be great choices! Make sure you find someone who is trained, licensed and enthusiastic about helping you!
